This interesting piece just in from the New York Times. Sandwiches in a can. I think this could be on par with week-old wonderbread and store-brand PB&J. They might need to create a removable barrier between the ingredients to prevent them from making the bread soggy.

We've canned everything else from chicken to pie filling, why not sandwiches? Just keep in mind, they aren't going to taste any good. Canned food is loaded with preservatives which ruin the taste, texture, and nutritional value of anything they encounter. I would be just as likely to sit down to a canned sandwich as a would be to sit down to spam for dinner. (which is to say I'd rather eat dirt.)
My first thought was "this is an abomination!" While I hold to that thought gastronomically, this really is an example of both what is wonderful and horrible about America at the same time.
The freedom to develop what is obviously a completely nutcase idea is deeply ingrained in the American psyche. Luckily, the public rarely falls for such gimmickry products although there are many examples that say otherwise. For example, those little wax bottles of sugar water that I used to get as a kid. I mean, what the hell are those supposed to be?!?!
The financial scheme that is actually the centerpiece of the store also qualifies as quintessentially American but that is another story altogether.
This one is easy.
I WANT A CANWICH RIGHT NOW.
I have a hard time understanding how you get the sandwich out of the can. Is it like a ship in a bottle?
Other than that I'd try it. Once. But not the meat one.
